Friends of Love Field

The repeal of the Wright Amendment is NOT a local issue it is a National issue.

Now the courts will decide.

The battle of Wright II has just begun!

For years the Nation has paid Federal taxes to the FAA to support Love Field. The Nation should be able to fly into and out of Love Field at the lowest prices with the most choices of flights from a large selection of airlines.

Friends of Love Field is an independent grassroots group of Love Field area business owners, homeowners and community leaders. In many cases we are all three.

We supported full repeal for national flights to and from Dallas Love Field Airport. We want open skies, more competition and the lowest fares.

However, the Wright Amendment "compromise" back room deal provides none of the above. As Rep. Jeb Hensarling recently pointed out, "The Wright Amendment is not really repealed under this plan. It is repackaged." Rep. Hensarling also notes that leaving the Wright Amendment in place for the next eight years will cost consumers an additional $5 billion in above-market prices for airline tickets.

This is because the current repeal plan makes consumers wait eight years before all flying restrictions are lifted. Further, supporters of the current "agreement" do not take into account the losses generated from the destruction of existing gates. Bill supporters want to bulldoze a third of the gates, going from 32 gates down to only 20. Simply put, eliminating gates all but eliminates the opportunity for competition - and the lowest fares -  at Dallas Love Field Airport. We supported Southwest Airlines (who will get 16 of the 20 gates), but not for this.  We do not want a cartel created for any airlines, even if we love them.

Our organization is for a stronger Love Field community. We support full repeal, consumer choices and a free market system that keeps prices from rising out of control. Join us today in supporting full repeal of the Wright Amendment and removal of the Federal mandate that destroys our gates. We fought for antitrust language in the bill and we got it.  There is still time to get what we all bargained for:  Consumer choice at the lowest fares and the freedom to fly non-stop across the country.  Now we will just get it from the courts.

We encourage you to be prepared to write your legislators to demand a full repeal of the Wright Amendment and for them to not destroy gates that promote competition, for this bill may be overturned by the courts!

Stand by - Wright II has just begun!
